Alliance of Valiant Arms
I have never been a fan of first player shooter games (FPS), as I initially lacked any skill, and was subjected to the constant slaughter of players who had more experience and faster reflexes. I was introduced to Alliance of Valiant Arms (AvA) about 2 months ago, and was pleasantly surprised by how different the game was compared to others. AvA is aimed for the less experienced players, in my opinion, in a couple different ways.
First, the separation of players via channels based on their level and experience. There is a level 1 - 5 channel with an extra 20% experience boost, and a level 5 - 10 channel with a 10% experience boost. If players do extraordinarily well in the beginner channels, they are automatically moved to the public channel to give “newbies” a standing chance. As expected any level can go into the public channel to take on the more experienced, higher level, well geared players. These channels are really well organized and easy to use without any confusion.
Second, the environment is colorful and has a high contrast, compared to Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), where the players blend in with the environment. It’s easy to tell where everyone was and when, leaving you with no confusion.
I’m not bashing MW3 or any similar series, as they are brilliantly designed and obviously appreciated by a large majority, but they did not appeal to me as I lacked any skill when it came to FPS games. As the first shooter game that I ever played, it had a confusing layout, and the community was full of veteran gamers who successfully obliterated me and my patience to keep going.
Third, the variety of maps and guns. AvA contains a total of nine game modes with a large collection of maps for each mode. It provides something for every type of gamer whether it’s simple annihilation or strategy maps based on team work.
Keep in mind, like in all games, there are down falls. Hacking and aim botting in this game is fairly easy and is often times abused. There is also an “ingame” shop, as the game is intended to make a profit, which allows users to buy stronger guns at lower levels, but don’t worry, this does not make anyone extremely over-powered.
In my opinion, AvA is a good starter game, that will slowly ease you into the FPS gaming world, without overwhelming you.
